Visiting Guidelines

No matter how long or short the stay, we want to make it easy for our patients to have an enjoyable visit with friends and family.

Upland Hills Health, Inc. provides an environment that allows flexibility in visitor numbers and hours of visitation. At the same time, we need to control the spread of infectious diseases and maintain a restful atmosphere

Upland Hills Health, Inc. recognizes patient visitation rights, including:

  • Informing patients of their visitation rights and clinical restrictions or limitations.
  • Allowing patients to choose the visitors they want and do not want to visit.
  • Allowing patients to have flexible visiting hours.
  • Treating visitors in a fair and equal manner (non-discriminatory).
  • Allowing visitors equal visitation privileges based on patient choice.

Our primary focus is to provide care, safety, and well-being to all its patients and residents, visiting restrictions/limitations may be applied.

 

RESTRICTIONS/LIMITATIONS:

Visiting hours may be restricted or closed for the following:

  • Visiting interferes with the care or rest of the patient/resident or other patients/residents
  • Visitor displays disruptive behavior(s), threatening, violent behavior(s) of any kind
  • Outbreak of flu or any widespread communicable disease in the community (at the Nursing and Rehab Center please look for signage)
  • Indications of a disease of possible epidemic proportions
  • A disaster in the community, or
  • We are aware of an existing court order restricting contact.

 

  • Visitors are required to register at the nursing station if staying past the designated visiting hour of 9 p.m. If you plan to leave the inpatient area, tell a staff person. If you plan to return to the inpatient area, tell the Emergency Department Admissions staff, so you can be escorted to the inpatient area.
  • All visitors should use the alcohol base rub product in the patient room or wash hands before and after visiting a patient.
  • Patients/residents may wish to have a support person present to learn how to assist the patient with their return to recovery after discharge and for emotional support during the hospital stay.
  • A pediatric patient may have an adult stay at all times.
  • When children visit patients/residents, they must be supervised by an adult at all times. Should children become restless or disruptive, you will be asked to take the children from the care area.
  • Every effort will be made to accommodate visits by the clergy. You are encouraged to contact your clergy if you would like a visit. A clergy list is available for the patient/resident at the nursing station. If you need assistance contacting clergy, speak with staff.
  • We ask that you do not visit if you are, or have been, ill during the past seven days for main hospital, or 10 days for NRC.
  • Please do not sit or lie on vacant beds.
  • Shoes and shirts are required at all times.
  • If visiting multiple areas including the Birth Center, please visit the Birth Center first.
  • Be mindful and respectful of the rights of other patients/residents.
  • Do not take food or beverages, including alcoholic beverages, to the patients/residents without first speaking with the nursing staff.
  • At the Nursing and Rehab Center, please refer to the Resident Rights Access and Visitation Rights.
  • Visitors may not bring guns or weapons into Upland Hills Health.
  • Visitors may not use tobacco products or forms of e-cigarettes on Upland Hills Health campus.

Visiting is limited after 9 p.m.
Use hand gel or handwashing prior to visiting or holding a baby.
Newborn babies are highly susceptible to illness, we ask that all visitors please refrain from kissing babies.
The spouse/domestic partner/support person is encouraged to stay with the mother as much as possible. Sleeping accommodations are provided for one person.
ATTENDING THE DELIVERY:
  • Anyone planning to attend the delivery must have the consent of the mother.
  • Sibling attendance at delivery requires prior authorization from the physician. In addition, siblings must be chaperoned. The attending physician may limit the number of persons who attend the birth. Generally, no more than two people are allowed.
  • When general anesthesia is required, visitors will be asked to step out.
  • Only one support person is allowed to attend a C-section birth.
  • Visitors report to the Emergency Department Admissions Desk. The Emergency Department is notified by the Emergency Department Admissions staff. Visitors are not admitted through the emergency ambulance entrance unless accompanied by staff.
  • Visitors are escorted by an Emergency Department Admissions or Emergency Department staff member to the patient’s room.
  • Visiting at the discretion of the RN in charge and is based on patient volume and protecting patient privacy.
  • A visitor will be contacted to meet with the surgeon after the surgery and to review the discharge instruction with the nurse.
  • When a No Visitors sign, Color-Coded Isolation Precaution sign or Keep Door Closed sign is posted on the door, please check at the nurse’s station before entering the patient’s room.
  • The Color-Coded Isolation Precaution signs are used for a person requiring some type of isolation to protect staff and visitors from infectious material. The signs may also be used to protect the severely immunocompromised patient from potential exposure to illness.
  • Personal protective equipment is available to decrease the chance of exposure. Staff can instruct you on its use.
  • It is recommended that children not visit patients in isolation. This recommendation is for the children’s safety and protection.
  • Please wash your hands when leaving the isolation room.
  • The staff will be glad to provide you with the patient’s phone number to allow you to visit by phone, or an iPad for a video chat option.

At the Auxiliary Gift Ship, merchandise changes frequently, but includes stuffed animals for new babies, beautiful gifts for the entire family, seasonal gifts and decorations.  Customer needs are met by helpful and caring assistance from our volunteers. Gift shop income is used to support patient care, programming, and medical equipment at Upland Hills Health.

The Upland Hills Health nutritional services team is always working to ensure that our patients, visitors and employees have delicious and healthy food options. That’s why you’ll find healthy wraps and salads in our grab-and-go coolers, along with a variety of hot items.

Lunch hours are: 11 am to 1:30 pm, Monday through Friday.

Buying Local

We order food from Fifth Season Cooperative and other local vendors, such as Bering Bounty LLC, Farmer Hon’s Cheese, Marr’s Valley View Farms, Sun Garden Greenhouse, Bryson’s Distribution (Dairy), Quality Bakery, and Gold Star Coffee to purchase fresh, local produce and other food items to use in our cafeteria meals.
